Mrs. Schae Bars

Peanut butter. Chocolate. Sweet. Salty. Ooey gooey crunchy deliciousness…. These are probably the most requested treat I’ve ever made and I have my amazing mom to thank for the recipe. Growing up, I remember making 4-5 batches of these before every skating competition (you know, good “bus” or “plane” food for 20+ starving girls) and they have since been known as Mrs. Schae Bars.

They’re a great treat to make ahead and can easily be cut into any size you need. In my opinion, the bigger the better! Simply wrap with plastic wrap and tie each individual bar with a ribbon and you instantly have a treat you can take anywhere!

I love to use holiday M&Ms in the recipe – a simple way to spruce these up any time of year.

Mrs. Schae Bars

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups corn Chex
  • 2 cups pretzels broken into pieces
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter
  • 10.5 oz mini marshmallows 1 bag
  • 1.5 cups M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9x13 pan (or really any size) - the smaller the pan the thicker the bars will be.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together Chex, pretzels, and M&Ms.

  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and peanut butter. Stir to combine.

  4. Add the bag of marshmallows to the butter mixture. Mix together. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring in between. The mixture will get very puffy and large as the marshmallows begin to melt! The mixture is ready to go when it's completely smooth. Be careful - it can get pretty hot.

  5. Add the marshmallow mixture to the large bowl of Chex, pretzels, and M&Ms. Quickly stir to combine before it solidifies.

  6. Pour mixture into your prepared pan. You may want to grease your hands and press into the corners - it is VERY sticky!

  7. Cover and let set for 3-4 hours. Overnight is best.

  8. Cut into bars of any size. Wrap individually with plastic wrap. Tie each with a bow!

  9. Repeat. Because you'll be asked to make these for every single occasion 🙂
