Lucky Number 3

What started off as one update to share has now turned into THREE. (!!!) I’ve written and rewritten this post so many times I’ve lost count because I’m not exactly sure how to share this all. Know that we are truly, wholeheartedly grateful for every opportunity that has come our way and believe everything happens for a reason (when combined with a TON of hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and challenge).

But first, here’s what’s happening!

1. I got a new job

2. Grant got a new job

3. We are moving to CHICAGO!

You might be thinking WHAT? You just moved to Minnesota! You’re correct. You just started your new job! Right again. You just started to feel settled and find normalcy in life, just in time for the holidays! Ding ding ding! But what’s life without a LOT of adventure and fun along the way?!

When we only knew about MY new job :) When we only knew about MY new job 🙂

THE STORY

HIL

A few months ago, I started working for Sally’s Baking Addiction – I do social media, random projects, update backend website things, etc. It’s been my favorite “job” to date – I don’t even consider it work because it’s just so darn fun! We went to NYC in October and Chicago last weekend and get to talk desserts all day every day. I realized I may be able to take on more clients like Sally while continuing my day job, and someday be able to work as an independent contractor for other companies doing what I love. Long story short, this “thought” turned into reality when I got in touch with Grateful Ventures – the name alone had me sold! The icing on the cake? Their HQ is in PHOENIX – the very city my parents just moved to!

I flew out to Phoenix at the end of October for a very spur of the moment 36-hour trip to meet with the Grateful team. I was instantly hooked – on the culture, people, work, and everything they stand for. The pieces fell into place and I’ll be working for them remotely, flying in and out of PHX when needed. My role? Social media management, working with top food bloggers, business development, and more as the company evolves! It’s a startup with a proven track record of success, and I CANNOT WAIT to get started. A dream job, for sure.

Someday, I’ll share my path to this opportunity – as I reflect on the past 10 years, everything I’ve done (5 jobs this year alone) and all of the crazy experiences I’ve had are woven into my story and how this all came to be… and how I grin from ear to ear just thinking about it. I may have fallen off my “plan” (med school, anyone?), but life has a funny way of showing you exactly what you’re supposed to be doing and when you should do it.

This allows me to create a job – and life – I love, all while encouraging and supporting Grant in his new role.

G

His new job will take us to Chicago! More details coming soon 🙂 We are pumped. Thrilled to the moon and back. Giddy with excitement. We’ve got this moving thing down and can’t wait to find our next home. My feelings about this move are completely opposite when I think about our move from Nashville to Minneapolis. We’ve already uprooted once and guess what – we survived – and thrived. I welcome this change with open arms! And it doesn’t hurt that one of my best friends lives in Chicago. Hi Alex!!

THE END… for now

So there’s a little glimpse into our life right now. I hope you know how humbling this entire year has been. In no way has it been sunshine and a cake walk (although I have had my fair share of desserts). It’s taken a leap of faith and trusting that everything will work itself out. And like I mentioned… incredible sacrifice and focus, sleepless nights, stress, challenge, anxiety, worry, nights of tears, and so much more.

Today, we welcome the holiday season with full and grateful hearts. We feel so fortunate to walk this journey together and are ready to start part 3 of our adventure. Thank you for letting me share our story – and for providing endless support and encouragement! Writing has become something I greatly enjoy, and am honored that you choose to read my little slice of life.

Wishing you a restful, joyful, and happy weekend!
