Well that went fast. Four weeks ago we were just moving in! My parents were here for the entire first week of February which is kind of crazy to think about. What a whirlwind! Here (and here) are a few updates I posted earlier this month. I also shared more about my bone marrow donation and recipes for baked oatmeal and bruschetta.
I made a fun little timelapse video of our move-in week! Click below to watch 🙂
February was full of change and getting our groove back. I will never take a routine and comfort for granted again! This month was all about finding ways to make Chicago home. For us, this means finding (and not getting lost) when going to the gym, grocery store, Target, post office, bank, gas station, nail salon, etc. It also means starting all over with new doctors, dentists, hair stylists, and more. I wish that there would have been a manual of ALL OF THE THINGS waiting for us in our apartment, but I guess this is the “fun” of moving. Thankfully, our friend Alex is basically a walking Chicago expert and I am infinitely grateful for her 🙂
I am also grateful for all of YOU who took my survey! I was blown away by the response and am excited to start writing about some of the topics that you suggested. As promised, I just shipped out cookies to one of you (Emily) as a little thank you for taking time to answer my questions. I love hearing from you and love your blog post content suggestions – as I mentioned before, the hardest part for me is coming up with what to write about!
In other news… Grant PASSED his huge financial licensing exam on Monday. It is his sixth one and I didn’t realize how stressed out I was about it until he successfully finished it. I feel silly even saying that because he had to take it (not me) but I guess that’s marriage for you.
We’ve been loving exploring our city by walking around as much as we can! Most days I walk anywhere from 12-15,000 steps just running errands and around the house without even thinking about it. And the beautiful weather always helps!
In an effort to stay consistent each month, here are the same categories I touched on in January:
Travel: NONE. That’s right – I stayed put right here in Chicago and it was glorious! I’m trying to be super intentional with my time away from home – after a crazy five months (ish) of travel plus uprooting our life again, I am savoring every minute of my very calm days at home.
Books: Unfortunately, I haven’t read as much as I wanted to this month. I’m still working on The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. But my book club is reading The Nest – it’s sitting on my nightstand but I haven’t cracked it yet.
Restaurants: It’s been really fun exploring our city one restaurant at a time. To be honest, I’m completely overwhelmed with all of the choices – where do you even start in such a foodie city?? Stella Barra | Blue Door Farm Stand | Jam ‘n Honey | Holy Taco | Summer House | Sable Kitchen | Quartino | Ipsento | Arbella | Goddess & the Baker
Other: I have fallen in love with Orange Theory and also tried Soul Cycle for the first time. My friend Bria was in Chicago for work, so we got together and had fun catching up. And, we hosted our first little gathering and I’ve been loving making even more friends (and reconnecting with old ones) each week!
I’m ready for MARCH and Grant’s birthday month! I think he’s earned an entire month of celebration 🙂
